The aim of this Station is to fulfill the government's
policy to pursue sustainable development of agriculture
and to promote the farmer's welfare by means of research
and extension. The following items of research and extension
will be emphasized in the future.
The Station will continue to study the yielding capacity
and quality of the existing crops of economic importance,
i.e. rice, sweet potato, Cassava, peanut, pears, sorosis,
Chinese jujube, persimmon, citrus, grape, vegetables,
Pleione formosana, and strawberry. Research on special
crops of potential economic importance, such as wild vegetables,
jelly-fig, health-food- type crops, and medicinal plants
will be emphasized. Other fields of studies and extension
work stressed are given in the followings: |
- The winemaking technologies will be developed to
brew wines of different kinds of fruits to solve the
problem of over produced fruits. In this regard, a
wine-processing laboratory together with a small wine-brewing
laboratory were built.
- To find the new insect natural enemies and to study
their rearing methods, while maintaining the colonies
of the established insect predator for release to
farms.
- A technique of using silkworm as baculovirus host
to produce high value recombinant protein will be
developed.
- Technology of bee keeping will be further improved
to promote production and quality of honey and royal
jelly. Techniques of fig-wasp raising will be further
improved to enhance propagation of pollinator wasps.
- Management of farms in terms of the organization
of production and marketing groups of various crops
will be the main work of extension. In this connection,
studies on post- harvest techniques such as grading
and packing of the agricultural products will be much
emphasized.
- Agro-tourism will be promoted by using the existing
museums in the Station.
